I am having a detritus problem on my sandbed and I am looking at getting a fighting conch to address it.
I have a 75g tank, how many would it be recommended that I get?
Thanks
I would really only recommend one. I have one for my 45 gallon and he's plenty! Just so you know, they will clean the bed, but they also disappear for weeks at a time (you'll think it's dead).
Conchs also are known to get stuck pretty easily in rockwork on the sandbed (or at least mine does).
I totally recommend a conch. I love mine!
Yep! Mine is a fighting conch. He'll only get an inch or so bigger, but still, 4 inches is pretty big, especially in a reef tank because the conchs stay on the sand and when they get bigger, they can't maneuver through the rocks as easily.
One or two at the most! I also recommend several nassarius snails and some cerith snails for the sand bed. Cerith snails will move all over the tank, but will frequent the sand also. Nassarius snails are great for the sand!!!
I put 5 in my 190 gallon tank. The 5 do a great job on the sand. Pound for pound, IMO it is the best addition to a tank followed closely by cleaner shrimp. I had a slight problem on a 75 gallon a while back and added 3. They knocked it out in no time. I then had wished I had added only 2. To answer your question, I would add 2. A couple months down the road you will be glad you did.
