I've read that you are supposed to fill with established water from the main tank... 2/3. The remaining 1/3 would be new water. Why is this? I thought that everything in the tank but the water cycles. Right now I'm running a Whisper 3 on my main tank to establish the filter. My tank is all ready to go but I wanted this answer so I know why I'm doing it. I'm down to 3 fish in my 125 so I'm thinking this water is not really the best.
