Film Floating on top of water?

I noticed today that a film of something floating on top of my water, it seems to be thin, but, is full of bubbles and has a swirl similar to what gas on top of water would look like. All critters are fine and the rest of the tank water is clear as usual. Any Ideas?

it's nutrients you don't want in the tank. aim a powerhead upwards and it will break it up, and allow your filtration system to take care of it.

Do you have a chiller by chance? They can spring a leak and send an oily residue back into the tank.

Do you have a protein skimmer? The film at the top of your tank can only be removed by a protein skimmer or water changes.

how much surface agitation do you have in the tank even with a good skimmer organics will bind at the surface unless the flow is enough to turn over the upper layer of water.
