Film on water

I have a film on the top of my water from my Southdown sand. What is a good way to remove it? A net doesn't seem to be working.

A skimmer that has an overflow? AKA Prizm 120 Deluxe..something like that. Or some other sort of skimmer/filtration that has an overflow.
