How do you get rid of the film on the top of the water, I don't have
a skimmer (yet) but have the powerheads pointed so that they
break through the film but still have it around.
Thanks for any help!! This is on both of my tanks by the way.

You can get rid of it If you carefully skim this off first when doing your water change, but it will soon be back..A skimmer is really the only way to rid your tank of it.That or lessen the bioload in the tank. This film is mostly from dissolved organic waste(fish pee and poop) so loose the fish and the film should go away for good...
But I'm sure that is not what you have in mind,,,So a GOOD and POWERFULL skimmer is a must...

Well as you can tell I have no fish in the 200 & only a couple
in the 125. I also add no chemicals so it looks like I need to start
saving for 2 skimmers. This is going to cost alot :D
The 200 is going to mainly be a fish only tank so I guess it would
need the better skimmer than the 125. I would like the 125 to
be a reef tank. Thanks for the info!

just a thought, anything die lately (i.e. anenome?) Also, is your entire sandbed silica? How many lbs total and what grains did you use? Getting ready to switch and will be using silica so just wondering how yours is doing.
