Filter and water movment questions

I have a 46 gal bow front with LR and LS with a emporor 400 power filter and 150 GPH power head.
1) do I have enough water movment to keep a reef?
2) how close can I have my LR to the filer inlet. 1"? dosn't matter, or clear all around so that it can be seen through the front of the tank.
thanks

I have a 46 bow myself. I have a wet/dry with a mag 5(500gph) return and im running 2 maxi jet 900(230gph each). Plus my powerhead for my protein skimmer is 174gph. Its a reef so you want to have a 20-25x per hour turnover rate. As for the inlet i would think you dont want to be too close. Id say an inch or 2 is ok.

thanks I got a rio powerhead also its a 340 gph, I put it in today at lunch and, to my unexperienced eye, it looked to be too much. Guess I'm just not used to seeing it moving so much. I'll put it back in and thanks for the info.

Thats a 12 X turn over and I agree its on the low side of normal for a reef but some critters can only handle low flow and some need a much higher flow so unless you specify livestock then something more around 15 times is best. IMO
