I have a 75 gallon tank, i would like to turn it into a reef tank i have heard that a sump is a good idea but not necessary. I was looking at some wet/dry sump filters like the aqua pro clear, is this the same as a regular sump. Should i go with one of them or stick with my fluval 304. please help. Thanks!

A sump can be just about any container that holds water, why not just add an external overflow and make a sump out of another tank, like a 29/30 gallon tank or larger?

If you dont have room for a sump, best thing to get would be a protein skimmer. Dont bother with the wet dry and ditch the canister. They are nitrate factories, especially the canister. Best to get the skimmer, and maybe add a wet/dry for more surface flow, devoid of any media except a place to put carbon, phosban or other absorption materials.
