Hi ,
I have a 125 Gallon salt water fish tank. .
Plain and simple i am looking a fish only possibly live rock tank. For now i have one faulse percula clown one blue devil damsel and one domino damsel. These fish have been in the tank for aprox. 6 months. During these six months i have consistenly added fish one at a time. several yellow tangs, and a bi color angel. None of them have survived. I belive this to be a function of improper filtration....
The tank setup as of today..
125 salt,
Crushed coral base
assorted dead coral, ( bubble , ect.)
I have a penguin dual bio wheel filter.
i have a skilter 400 ( filter and protien skimmer)
1 hot magnum.
This week i have changed the magnum over from activated carbon to Fluval Bio Media. And added Fluval bio media to the skilter. both were previously activated carbon...
Funds are not unlimited.. but i looking for recomendations on filter selection and protien skimmer?
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Ps. i have the luxury of having a water testing labratory at my disposal; if that would help. ( also i have nearly unlimited acess to Deionized water)

Hi there,
Well not sure what is going on, but I love the way your tank looks.
I assume you have tested your water, why do you say improper filtration?
I think that would show when you test your water.

first off i would like to say your tank looks awsome with that background.
ok here is what i would do if i was fixing/building a 125g
i would keep that marineland 300/350/400 filter but i would use the extensions that came with it to move the suction to the bottem and middle.
then i would buy a octopus 110 HOB skimmer.
get like 2 powerheads one on each side. kol 3's(probly be good)
then about 150#'s of LR then you should be set
you can do with out the rock but it looks much better with the LR imo. you might also want to look into a nicer light fixture for in the future. you can get like a nice coralife model cheap. cant really support corals but its got the good bulbs you need(10,000k daylight & an Antic)
hope this helps. hopfully someone else will chime in and give some more advice/ tell me that im telling you to over do it
