filter/light q

OK, so I have my 10 g nano. here are my stats, and then I have a filter q.
2 inch deep LS (dunno how much weight, got it from my dad's well established tank)
about 15-20 lbs live rock
10 snails (unless the hermits ate more)
7 hermits (at last count...they keep killing each other)
1 emerald crab
1 condylactus
1 bubble tip anenome
1 green star polyp
2 false percs
using a coralife (i think thats the brand) 50/50, its 40W (not sure on the wattage, its 18" long)
and i have a fluval 101
filter q first, do i even need the fluval? i love it cause it clears my water up quick. we took the carbon out of it (my dad has been doin this for years and said its lousy carbon, and i dont really need it anyway). what do i need to do for maint? he told me not to rinse my bio stuff in the filter cause id rinse good guys away, but im reading that these filters can cause ammonia/nitrite/nitrates to go higher.
light q. not really sure what my light is, dad got it all set up for me. his first reaction when we plugged it in is that it is VERY blue. is this normal for this type of bulb? shouldnt a 50/50 be not blue?
I guess i have one more q. i put my emerald crab in there and he has been goin to town on the hair algae growing on my polyps. is he hurting the polyps at all? the ones where he pulled algae off are hiding, but i figure its probably stress.
in case anybody wants to know, here is where my water is:
temp: 80 (is that too high?)
salinity 1.024
pH: 7.8-8.2
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: <10
Supplement with Kent Tech I, and buying Kent garlic tomorrow
ok, one more question (sorry, i know this is gettin long). I read in another post that its not a good idea to have more than one anenome, cause they can fight over nutrients. true? not true?
Thanks!!!!
