filter media

I have a 55 gallon seaclear acrylic tank in it's cycling phase right now and i was wondering something.... the filtering system is built into the back of the tank. Water overflows through the top, down through bio-balls and through a protein skimmer. (built in)... on one side of the tank you have an option of three levels, for filter media.. i put a bag of activated carbon in one of the levels from my established fluval filter .. what else should i use??? Once it is done cycling, what should i use... a little help would be appreciated....thanks...

It sounds fine with what you have right now. After the cycle you could add o phosphate sponge and a nitrate sponge. They will help in keeping the nutrient levels in the system down so you maybe wont have as much of a problem with hair algea and other "neucance" algeas
