I am beginning to start a 75 or 90g tank, with fish and corals. Filtartion I was going to use a Fluval x5 cannister and marineland biowheel. I just came back from my LFS and they tell me that if I need to keep corals, I have to go with a sump. I am not to keen on the sump (worried about water 0verflow) and more expensive. Has the canister and biowheel worked for people with fish and corals, do you guys think it will be good enough fliteration wise.

I think that anything besides a nano needs a sump. In the long run, you'll be happier if you go with it. You could make a DIY sump for very cheap. My mom made a sump for her 30g out of two plastic storage bins...if you look in the DIY section, you'll definitely find what you need. If you do it right, overflow shouldn't be a concern.

I used 2 fluval 405's for about 2 years on my 125 before I switched to a sump. The FX5 imo would do the job by it's self without the biowheel. for corals thou you should consider getting a skimmer.

A few years back I ran a skimmer,canister and powerheads,that was it.
It worked well more me.I just made sure I cleaned the canister often(once a week). So yes,it can be done.

you could also just get a good skimmer lr & sand, you can still use that canister for extra water flow and for the ocasionally use of carbon.
