Filter questions

Im going to be setting up a 120 gal tank in the near future. My LFS guy is a little obnoxious, and doesn't really want to take the time to answer all my questions. I want to start with FOWLR and move into a reef. I like the looks of the Amiracle wet/dry, but he says i should build my own sump/filter system with a 30 gal tank under the 120 gal tank with an overflow box. Im so lost as to how to do this, and if I should. Would a pre-packaged wet/dry filter system be a better choice? I'm a little terrified of all the plumbing accessories and gadgets and I don't want to drill anything. I know that sounds lame, its just that I want to do this right and not hurt any of my future livestock.
Any suggestions, pictures, websites......ANYTHING....would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

IMO setting up a wet/dry or sump/refugium can be a difficult task. Even for experienced hobbiests.
you could do a search here for some ideas.
If the 120 is a 4' 120 an in tank refug with some more typical filters could be a lot easier to set up.
Hope that is not too confusing.
