I one in the tank with and extra one so I just rotate them and throw the sock in the washer with hot water and cap full of bleach works real well, I have to change mine about every 4 days. I also have a thin one, dont know how many microns it is but it is like one of those bags you use to put charcoal in and if I am going to be gone for longer than 4 days I put that one on because it does not clog up but still catches debris

i agree with hillk. we have 3 in use in our tanks. every 3-4 days we switch them out and throw them in the washer with a little bleach. let them air dry completely before using them again.

what about the plastic ring on top of the socks. will it get damage when you put it in the washer? and only bleach , no detergent?

If you don't want to use Bleach some people use Hydrogen Peroxide when they wash it. Just use the same care you would to not get bleach in the tank.
