I'm guessing you still want a hang on back filter? Well, I would personally recommend an Emperor 400 for a 50g+. It's a very good HOB filter. It comes with two filter baskets that you can fill with media and the filter cartridges come pre-filled with carbon. Hope this helps!

I have a 55 gallon and I run a Fluval 305 canister filter. I absolutely love my setup. I use a HOB filter as a fuge and also run a protein skimmer. I have a mixed reef tank and this works perfectly for me.
