filtering reef

I have a ehiem wet dry filter on my 30g reef that I have been running for around a year, and was thinking about getting a new protein skimmer. Do yall think I should just go ahead and switch over to a sump or something like it. I have alot of live rock, so itsnt a sump system you run, bc the protein skimmer becomes the biggest part of filtering?
Basically is it worth the money if I were do to a 20 gallon sump, and how should I go about doing it, should I just buy a pre-made one, also what would be a good skimmer to put with it.
Thanks for the help

The skimmer is much more important than the sump. The filter you have will work just fine with the appropriate amount of live rock, flow, and skimming.
As far as good skimmer, I would go with a Corallife Super Skimmer 65. It will skim that tank very nicely and it is very reasonably priced.

well I have no complaints about it, kinda wish I would had just gone with a sump though just bc it increases your water volume by so much, it stablizes your tank better and you have more filtration options, plus you can keep all your filtration, heating, etc under your tank and out of site.
Just went with the aqua c remora for my new skimmer, coulnt find any complaints about it other than a little noise. Ill post when it comes in
