Filtration media

Hello again
Newbie here setting up their 400L (105 gallon reef tank). Haven't started cycling yet just working on rocks.

Do you guys think as a beginner I need any filtration media in my tank? Like carbon, GFO, zeovit? Or are these only to be added if I can't maintain my tank later?

I plan on doing monthly (20%) or fortnightly (10%) water changes. I'm assuming I'll take a month or so to cycle, and then I'll only keep two clownfish for 2 months after that to see if they're doing well before I add more fish.

What is your reccomendations regarding use of this media?
Yes I have a skimmer, and I'm considering a deep sand bed plus live rock in my refugium for nitrate control.

In my DSB systems the DSB was my primary filtration. Those tanks did tend to accumulate Gelbstof at an increased rate though. To remove that I would run GAC for a couple days every time the water failed the white paper test, every 2 or three months on average.
