filtration question

Ok, i have a 38gal tank up and running now, with a 5gal fuge that will soon be filled with garfs grunge in order to keep my Dragonet fed (even though he is attacking pellet, and brine shrimp!!yay!!).
Over the last few weeks, mostly due to deals on used parts, i have come across the following filtration setups.
(2) fluval 404 setups
(1) fluval 304
(1) fluval 204
(1) pelican dual bio wheel setup.. um 350?? i forget.
My other tank is a 75 gal FW tank with a rather large bio load (oscar tank)
I would like oppinions on the SW tank's filtration needs. I am not in the mood to do a sump at the moment, what filter(s) do you think i should use?
I run puragen in my canisters at the moment (204 on SW and 304/pelican on FW)
any ideas would be nice..
Would the 404 on the SW tank be too much? I plan on having soft corals in there sooner or later. current fish: Mandrin Dragonet, Flasher wrasse, midas blenny, pigmey angel.
thanks

just wondering, why is a canister no good?
my LFS (yeah i know we all hate the LFS) has been keeping fish and corals alive for as long as i can remember with only a 404 on their display tank (125).
Maybe i will make a sump, as long as i dont have to drill in to my reef tank. I will look around for DIY directions.
