With filtration being a big part of a healthy tank and technology increasing in the fields of SWF. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on canister filtration.

Canisters are Ok. I run a Fluval 404 and It helps me Clean&Clear ::joy:. Skimmers are good though.

I would say fine for smaller tanks but once you start getting over 90gals or so I would recomend a sump. Just my $.02.

I think Fluvals are pretty great! You need to be a rocket scientist to set it up, but once you do I think you'll be pleased. It's quiet and efficient. But make sure you read instructions on how to shut it off properly for maintenance - the first time I thought I knew how to do it using my own twisted logic and ended up with water spraying in every direction as I ran around in a panic! :hilarious

I've got a Fluval 304 on my 55. I have the foam filters, 2 levels of filtration with the ceramic pieces, and 1 level with "Aqua Chargers".
I don't run carbon through my Fluval because it isn't the easiest to change out. I do have the overflow box on my Remora skimmer for running carbon if I want to.
