I was thinking about getting rid of my amiricle wet/dry filter on my 135 and switching to two aqua clear 500's.Is this possible?I never liked the Amiricle wet/dry filter and have had great luck with the Aqua clear 500 filters.I want to get back into the hobbie but the filter has always been my down fall.Any comments would be appreciated:)

Keep the wet dry... SO much better than the aqua clear water mover. You could run carbon and phosban in your aqua clear though.

The wet dry may be better but my experience with the aqua clear is just so much better.I am also alot more familiar with the 500 then the wet dry.

I'm with cincyreefer on this - I would keep the wet/dry over the HOB power filters.
I'm a big fan of having an overflow and sump/wet/dry, so my opinion will always lean that way. Especially on larger tanks like yours.
It's certainly possible to use two of the Aquaclear 500's, if you prefer.
You say that the filter has always been your down fall. What kinds of problems did you have in the past ?
Setting up a tank utilizing a combination of some live rock, sandbed and possibly a planted refugium would be worth looking into in my opinion. Protein skimmers are another great option for many folks as well. You may be able to a very nice successful tank - without the need for the bioballs in the wet/dry, or the need for the two HOB filters.
A lot of people do set up there tanks this way. It all depends on what kind of tank you want now versus what you may want in the near future.
A wet/dry, with or without biomedia allows for some flexibility over the HOB - again in my opinion.

I agree with the info from broomer...filtration consisting of a sump and/or wet/dry plus a good amount of LR with a sand bed and possibly a refugium is often far better than any available type of mechanical filtration sources.
I've never run any type of mechanical filtration on my system basically all I use is LR/LS/sump/skimmer/refugium...lots of folks use basically the same type method with success.
