Fimbriated Moray jumped ! GRRRR

Well my eel proof tank is not that escape proof. I found my moray out by the door way to my den. I put him in my old mantis shrimp tank (i am so glad i did not tear it down this week). He start breathing almost immediately !! I was picking a little fuzz of him and he felt good enough to BITE ME !! (this is not recomended ... IT HURTS WORSE THAN A SNAKE BITE !! O*UCH ungrateful SOB:p)
I have no idea how long he had been out. I went to bed last night at 5 am he was still in there. I found him when i got up at noon. After being in the tank for a little while he started what i would call shedding his slime coat. Looks like a snake shedding. I found it very interesting , though I would have rather him stay in the tank. Most people know this but i had to find out the hard way. The do put a protective coating over themselves and they come back pretty fast after being back in the water.
Now i wish i had gotten some pics. Just decided to share my exciting afternoon. Now no more excitement for the weekend !!:p :D Besides I work and excitement at work is a bad thing :)

Snakes n Fish, let me tell you my eel story today.... I took a 2' chainlink moray that my boss had for almost 3 years from his tank yesterday to the 300 I set up at work... the eel decided to slither through into the internal wet/dry last night.. I had to take all the bio-balls and the 3 pumps that run the wet/dry out then had to net him....finally I was able to catch him and then had to put him in the FO 150 we also have there... once I eel proof the 300 he will go back in..... just a little stressful!!! the whole time I had about 50 kids asking what I was doing every 5 seconds!! LOL! on a lighter note, I bought a teeny tiny chainlink yesterday for my home tank that is the doing great!! since my tank is acrylic he cant escape!

That had to be a chore to get hout of there ! And nice new addition !! Chain link are alot like a snow flake from what i heard !!
But i am still amazed that my eel is ok and eating already. One would expect this from a fresh water eel, that may have to move from a drying out stream to another. But not an marine moray. But I am glad he is ok and being his ussual begging for food self :)

Actually, many species are reported to chase prey right out of the water and go aground after it, returning only after they have caught their dinner (sally lightfoot crabs, octopus, etc), so it's actually in their nature.
Moreys were recorded as being kept in ancient Rome, so it's obvious they are tough enough to survive the pre-filter world!!!**grin**
