Fin Rot

Fish in my tankl died from fin rot. I got a blue damsel and a velvet damsel who i think have it too. I posted on the disease forum but no one is answering. PLZ help, do the meds work or are they doomed? would the tank have it if i just get rid of them? How could i get rid of the fin rot in the tank if the fish are cured or die from it???

the damsels could just be fighting and stressing each other out to the point of death. what was the fish that died?

hmm when i had a damsel and clown mix they always bullied one of my clowns. that could be the problem. Take a seat in front of your tank and see if the fish are bullying each other.

I agree with aarone,
I've had damsels with clowns before, although some people are lucky and they get along, They never have for me.
If the darn damsels saw me, they went on good behavior, but once they thought I left, they would chase the clowns that were way bigger than them.
Damsels will fight among themselves in a 55 gal too. I think the Domino's lost first. My Yellow were the meanest, followed by the blue devil.
Damsels no longer.... for me anyway

Well hopefully is that. The blue bullied on the clown when i first put him in the tank and stopped when i tapped the glass.
But what if they had fin rot, should i treat the tank with LS in it or not? Will it harm the good bacteria that comes with it?

I wouldn't. You need a hostital tank if you don't want to mess up everything. LS & LR will retain any chemical introduced. Most chemicals that make claims that they won't kill beneficial bacteria, either don't work, or kill a large % off. IMO

i have an extra 10G running, it has a little leak, that's y i got a 30G (which has the LS) now instead of waiting to get a bigger one later cause i might get one for x-mas. I treated the 10G, should i take the bio wheel off the filter?Could i reuse the bio wheel in a 10G reefer tank i was planning on setting up?

Yea.. if you use the 10 as a hosp, take the wheel off and drop it to bottem of 30 gal so it doesn't dry out. Remove charcoal if any. I think what you may be calling "fin rot" may only be chewed up fins that have become infected. I wouldn't use a copper based med just yet.
Someone else may know a good med to use.
Hosp tank.... bare except for some hiding places, Pvc...etc

What if ===> you mean you already did that :) Well most of the "goodies" established on the wheel are prob history by now, depending on what med you used.
I would go ahead and leave it there, but buy a replacement one to use later. Submerse the new one in the 30 when you get it to start the bacteria growing on it.
