I'm NO lionfish expert but will he eat Mysis? If he's so into shrimp maybe fill him up on the cheap shrimp.

The good news is he ate...
Sorry about that. Lions are not considered "reef" safe for that very reason. They often will swallow anything they can get in their mouths.
Your fish store should take him back, especially if you tell them the situation.
Kirk, pick up a copy of "Marine Fishes" by Michael's. Also known as the Pocket Guide to Marine Fishes. It gives a good breakdown of different fish and what they are compatible with.

thanks for the info about the book and i bought the shrimp for him to eat i just feel bad i didnt want him to die that would be terrible i just not so sure that i want him anymore. actually i never wanted him in the first place it was my boyfriend kirk that wanted him im his girlfriend. i am really scared of him and think its mean that he ate the little shrimp.

have you tried any frozen food on a feeding stick? i feed my lion krill, squid and clam taken out of the shell. he will also eat mysis if i put some in there for the other fish. maybe wait a few days before trying to feed him again. if he is hungry, he should take frozen food....good luck!

You'll make a great aquarist with compassion like that.

You should be able to find a store that sells ghost shrimp. They are a feeder shrimp (much cheaper then Peppermints). Soak them in some tank water along with some liquid garlic. Then use feeding stick to feed lion. He'll get used to the garlic smell and be more apt to go after frozen foods held on the feed stick when he smells garlic.
