well i am new to this website, but not to the hobby....
i have kept fw tanks ever since junior high and am in love with african cichlids (i currently have 10in 6-stripe frontosa that is my jewel) i will post pics later. well later in high school i decided to make the jump to saltwater. and through trial and error, ton of reading and researching, and not to mention $$, i finally was able to keep sw tank successfully.
well i went away to college two years ago and wasn't able to take any of my tanks with me.
so my mom was left in charge...not a good idea.
some fish died, some made it. well after one year of college i was able to bring my 29g sw tank with me
and all was well. but unfortunately with my school and my job (travelled extensively) my tank did not receive the care it needed. so i sent my inhabitants to an orphanage (lfs) and suspended my tank for awhile.
but just 4 weeks ago i started my tank back up with new equipment, substrate, LR, etc etc. and all is right in my world! so i thought id share my recent experiences with everyone here. and in the process of setting up my new tank i keep getting reminded that no matter how many years ive dealt with tanks, i am always learning. unfortunately, the hard way most of the time.
-first i decided on what substrate i was going to use.. i had used CC before and did not care for it so i went with caribsea argonite.(good stuff)
-then i decided on the live rock i wanted... i had always used fiji so i wanted a different kind this time, and eventually ended up choosing lalo select. its a little pricey but its beautiful stuff. all kinds of colors and the shapes of the rocks are amazing! very pleased with it.
-after i decided all that, i updated all my equipment. new filter, powerhead, heater, lights, additives.
-then i finally placed an order for my live rock...thats where all the fun begins.
but for now here are some pics of my tank while its finishing up cycling...
feel free to comment or share your experiences!!!!
