Oops. Sorry I was out for awhile - wife decided to buy a new couch . But we can get together later this week if you want.
Originally I had the Bio bale but I chucked it.
The acrylic was pretty simple - it was my first project so I have learned a little since then but as it's an overflow and doesn't have any pressure getting perfect seams/cuts wasn't too big a deal. I got it from HD.

I didn't know that HD sold acrylic.
What thickness did you use?
What did you use to bind the seams?
How'd you cut it?
I have never worked with arcylic before (in case you couldn't tell).
I would basically be building a replica of the CPR BBX model only a touch wider to accomodate the MJ.

I have a rio 800 on my excalibur skimmer. It's only about 2 months old and working fine but after reading all these stories maybe I should switch it out. Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement?

wut kind of pumps can i use to return the water to my tank, iff i use an external do i have to drill a hole in my sump

the Mag series are reliable submersible return pumps.

i'm having incredible luck with teh rio on my skimmer.. it's 3 years old..lol
i bet it's for every 9 bad ones there 1 good one

Anyways, I had a rio running my remora and then my mother's (she inherited the skimmer when I upgraded) for 2.5 years. so far so good.
Spinner: how about calcium deposits in your tank? other possible catalysts?

I used the 1/4 inch stuff and Weld-on 16. I have a portable table saw I use to cut it.

Anglachel -
I did not notice any calcium deposits or apparent damage to the impeller (sp) of the burned pump.
In my case, the cord burned and separated from the pump unit. It was not noticeable.
Now I regularly check my pumps for detritus and calcium build up and clean them every couple of months. And at 18 or so months, I change them out. (I'm a little paranoid now)

For that project I used just a regular 10" rip blade, but now I use a plywood blade - does a better job. For really nice edges I rough cut with the table saw and use a router to finish.
