what would ya'll suggest for a "tactical" shotgun like the cops use or something? I'm turning 18 in a month and wanna get one. Do shotguns and rifles need to be registered or is that only handguns?

It all depends on the state.

There is no federal registration requirement. Check state and local laws for their requirements.
Ca requires handgun registration, but rifle and shotgun registration is optional...like anyone would actually do that.

For a "first" firearm, I would suggest a .22 or .17HMR. Very fun to shoot and easier to learn proper shooting techniques with. My 22s are more fun to shoot than any of my other calibers. (very closely followed by my AR)
.17HMR info page... http://www.varmintal.com/17hmr.htm

Here are the outdated pics. I no longer have the AP-9 (piece of junk)

Glock 22, S&W 669, Springfield Armory XD9, Kahr PM40, Keltec P3at (aka the noisy cricket)

Also, I replaced the Smith & Wesson 669 and Kahr PM40 with this....
Kimber Ultra Carry II

I actually havent owned an XDM yet. They have all been XDs so far. If they are supposed to be improved versions of the XD Im not sure what they could have improved on because all of the ones I have had were superb pistols. I would highly recommend them.

I don't have the XMD, but my Springfield 1911-A1 is a jewel.

Well I'am thinking the XDM will be my next pistol+a Ruger 380 lcp.My gun dealer is having hard time getting any kind of 9 mm pistols now. Also the ammo is going up next month. He said prices will double or even triple.

.223 went from 7.99/20 to 12.99/20 for the good reloadable stuff. Higher end/match 223 is up to $20/20 in some places.
Watch for an attack on the 2nd Amendment anytime soon.
