Firefish compatability

Ok, so I just bought a pair of red firefish. They are doing good in my 20 high with my true perc. At first, the perc was nipping, but now they are best of buddies. I wanted to know what would the outcome be if I were to go out and purchase a purple firefish, would there be conflict? Or would they be fine together?

I've never had firefish but I know my mom just got her tank up n goin n she has 2 red's and 1 purple...and all of them were put in at different times...a week or 2 apart. All of them are getting a long great. So that's just their experiance with adding them at different times. Maybe someone with personal experiance can give you some better advice though.

In a 20, I would not consider adding a Purple if you already have two Reds. Although closely related they need there own space to do well. Good hiding places and a lot of live-rock in the tank helps. Following is a quote from another source.
Although firefish are generally peaceful fish, they often fight among themselves unless your aquarium is very large with lots of hiding places or a compatible male-female pair is obtained.
Firefish are also great jumpers, especially when startles or frightened. Keep their aquarium covered so you don't find your firefish dried up on the floor someday.
Here is a shot of my one Purple guy........

thanks guys, yea, i heard the purple ones are a little more territorial, i want one, but i don't know if i can risk the 35 dollars for it to cause problems, in a 20 high, with true perc, 2 firefish, and a future watchman, i am looking for one more little fish to add color, any recommendations??

Here is a good article from our British friends on the subject to read....Don't think the Mods will gripe too much on the link;

A couple smaller colorful fish I can think of and like are the midas blenny...i've seen some cool pics of those, i used to have a lawnmower blenny and really liked his personality. I have a purple psuedochromis that's a nice splash of color...i would put him in last though...cause you'r other fish are pretty peaceful he's considered semi-aggresive. six line wrasse is pretty colorful and a smaller fish he's also peaceful. there's a couple different types and colors to pick from, keep us updated on what you finally choose:)
