do you have something cometely closeing off the back of the tank? they can get out of a very small sapce. if he died in the tank then the cleanup crew would clean it up and you will never see a sign of it ever happeing.
when was the last time you saw him. I lost a small fish before but he found a big hole in a rock and stayed in there until I was miing rock and then he came out I didnt see him for several months.

I Don't mean this to sound stupid, but did you check inside the top of the tank, a long time ago when i had freshwater i had a fish go missing, and didn't even think about the top of the tank, but i took it off one day and laid the top in the floor and daggone if he wans't dried up and stuck to the inside of the tank top.

na theres only three holes.. one where the overflow sits and there nothing in the overflow or the durso or my fuge... one where the fan is so he couldn't get through there with out being chopped up into several pieces but that would have made a mess and one where my return is but that is tight fitting...
not stupid.. i did check the canopy itself and the outer edges..
but i'm wondering if my brittle star got him while he was sleeping and the cleanup crew cleaned the rest.. there a hell of a crew i overfeed all the time becuase everyone likes the food and eats it all....... i've had problems before with my brittle star eating my chromis...

brittle stars usually scavage for food unless they are really hungry but that is a possibility.
I would watch the brittle at night a few times ot make sure that he is hunting for lying fish at night.

now that i'm thinking about it the firefish usually sleeps underneath a piece of LR on the SB he made himselve a little cave in there... i know the brittle hangs out there too sometimes maybe i just don't feed him enough

you can target feed them with shrimp poeces or shrimp pellets at least thats what I do. I have 3 of them in my tank and they are usually always hungry.

My firefish, when I had one, once disappeared for a month. Then one day appear and was looking as healthy as ever. About two months later, gone again. I thinkthis time is was for good though. Hope you find him!
