Firefish MIA - Again

Sparkey the 3rd is MIA and presumed dead. As you can see, this is my 3rd and I have had very bad luck with them.

The original Sparkey made it only 16 days before he got sucked into a PH (I have since remedied that issue).
Sparkey 2nd was great for 48 days before he dissapeared, never to be seen again.
Sparkey 3rd was the best one yet, spending lots of time out in the flow. He was QT'd and everthing. A month ago we added a Royal Gramma from out QT into the DT. I never saw the RG hassle Sparkey 3rd, but something must of happened because shortly thereafter Sparkey would hide most of the time, coming out when I was working on the tank (begging). Yesterday he did not come out to eat, staying in his cave. Today he is nowhere to be found.
I expect the clean up crew has already disposed of the body.

No more firefish for me. 3rd strike and all.

I, too, follow the third strike rule. A sailfin tank is not meant to be in my tank. Sorry to hear of your troubles, they're great little fish.

ive had mine for over 7 months and only see it 1 every few days, it always hides under a 12kg rock and only tend to see it around feeding time for a few minutes if that. i wouldnt worry too much as yet.

IMO probably went carpet surfing. When ever they get spooked or feel threatened they dart around and will jump out of the tank. Possible options are to cut some eggcrate to fit over the top of the tank.

it is also possible something is bullying it in the tank and so the firefish is hiding and probably starving somewhere in your rock...that is what happened in my tank with my purple firefish...they would be great in my tank for months on end, and then one day i never saw them...i knew their home where they slept at night, etc so i kept constantly trying to see them in there and one day i did...i was able to take the rock and get him out...he was super skinny and starving......so its another possibility for you

I have glass over the tank. There is a 1.5 inch gap along the back of the tank that he could have jumped through. Also, I cannot find the body on the carpet.

I know where he sleeps at night. He has slept in the same cave since we put him in the tank. I have looked for the past day or two and he is not in there anymore. Unless he found a new place...

can you take the rock out and double check? for a couple days i couldnt see my firefish either and then finally one night i just happen to catch the sight of his tail...so being scared he may have crammed himself in there tight.

I will check his rock. I am out of town right now until Sat. It will have to wait until then.

He is nowhere to be seen in the tank. He has never been gone for more than a few hours now it has been 5 days. I would say he is dead
