Do you have a clean up crew? Or is wedged in hole of LR. I hope for the second one. No they don't dig under sand.

Mine met a similar fate. Just vanished one day no where to be found. I figure he got up in the rocks somewhere and died to where I cant see it. Didnt have any carnivores in the tank large enough to eat it. Its a mystery. Other then that the only thing I can think of is he jumped then one of the dogs found and ate him for a snack which is completely possible.

When they dry up they kinda look like colored french fries. Lol!
Yeah, most of my firefish have gone carpetsurfing as well.
Some fish i thought i had lost only to turn up months later

well if he dosn't come out in a couple of days then you know that your clean up crew did there job. Do you have a lid on your tank, if so you can rule that out.

i asked the fish store before i bought the crab and they said that they would not put it in their reef tank cause they didnt want it walking all over the corals didnt say nothing about it attacking things

LFS are there to sell you stuff and if it dies they will gladly sell you another one. You know if your anemone is dying if it starts to turn its self out threw its mouth, it looks total different from when its dumping waste.

Just as snake has mentioned I had a Christmas wrasse go missing for a week then pop out of no where. Also a queen conch go missing for literally a month and just when I was about to get another she was out cleaning the sand, and then gone again for another couple weeks lol. Just give it some time and don't panic =)

fire fish are jumpers so its very likely it jumped out if you dont have a lid, i had one jump from the tank into the overflow box twice, so check around your tank and in the back of the tank.
