I am planning on addind some coral. My tank is all ready lighting everything. What are some good beginer coral and how do I take care of it?
Thanks in advance
mushrooms are a great start, they require good water and light and not much else really. you may want to pick up a book on corals , these are helpful when selecting what types you can keep and what the requirements are for each.
I agree with the mushrooms. Very hardy coral. Make sure you do your research on each coral before you buy them, there are quite a few out there that are difficult to care for.
The books are a must, but for the initial insight you can go to this website. Look at the corals for sale and at the bottom it will have a summary of hardiness, care level, diet, etc.
I say go with zoathids. They are very easy and they grow very fast so it will get your confidence up. My zoathids grow a lot faster than my mushrooms and look a lot nicer IMO.
I'm just thinking of going in corals... I just have only some brown button polyps from a piece of LR that I bought (Surprise!)
They grow very slow under my 260 OC (90 gal tank).
They are not pretty/colorful.... but they didn't cost a penny!
All the musroom that I saw in LFS are (IMO) ugly... something like an alien animal vomit!
Correct me if I'm way wrong.
What would be a good beginner corals book??
Thank you
