First cycle

I have had my 150 gal running for 5 weeks,introduced
two domonoes and two blue damsels 18 days ago and
65 lbs live rock 15 days.Two days afte the rock.amonia
went to 40ppm and has sayed there.No nitrites,no nitrate ..ph8.3 salinity 1.2023...no change going into
14th day of 40ppm......AM i impatient?

give it time your only 2 weeks into your cycle. you ran the tank for 2 1/2 weeks without fish or live rock or anything? your cycle begins when you introduce waste or bacteria into your tank.

Was the rock uncured? Those #'s seem a high. If you were using cured rock.
You could probably use more rock and a deep sand bed.
I have no patience either, unfortunately with this hobby you need some. Wait a couple days and check again.

The reason that your ammonia is so high is because the LR is going through a die off period....your water will get really high ammonia readings. But after a period of time your water will work its way out of the spikes.

thanks to all, i did not think the 40ppm was particularily high, my concern was that there
was no change..40ppm every day...actually thought it would spike higher considering
the amount of detrius...the fish are still quite perky and look strong...
