You may not even need the shrimp if the LR you are buying is uncured. You can cure your new LR the first time right in the tank. And at the same time cycle it. Adding uncured rock should give off enough ammonia to start a cycle. Good luck1 :happyfish

to cure it for 3 weeks then add it later on. u may spend a lot of money, but it will save u time and most likely money in the long run.

But What If The Lfs Don't Sell Uncured Lr Do I Put The Shrimp In With The Cured Lr And If I Buy Some Lr Now And Then Want To Add Some More Later How Wood I Go About That

Im sure your LFS has uncured available. Even if they say its "cured" you still should cure it just to be safe. But yea you can put the shrimp in with the "cured" LR. I suggest buying all the LR now and putting it in. Adding at a later time will require you to cure it in a seperate container with a powerhead, saltwater mix, heater until no ammonia, nitrites are present. Then you can add it to your tank.

I have noticed that when one puts in uncured LR the Ph spikes terribly and is still very high... how can one solve this problem... if it is still high by the time the tank is done cycling and time for a cleanup crew?

if u stop down at ur lfs, theyll have ph buffer that will straighten out ur ph problem. i think u can add baking powder too, but ive never tried that, just heard bout it on this site. also, u can add the shrimp, im just saying u just dont really need it.

Pondy-did you check your other post? I gave instructions on posting pics. You may have seen it.
Sin-it sounds like you're on the right track. This site is wonderful. Helped me, and many others, get the tank going from day one of just thinking about it. I have a work in progress but I really love my tank. Good luck.
Ant.
