Hey guys, new to this forum!
Been keeping freshwater tanks for a while, just recently switched to saltwater when I got a new 50g tank.
I've been documenting the process and blogging about it. Hoping to have people learn form my experience and get advice and feedback from other hobbyists.
Here is the link: http://firstsaltwatertank.wordpress.com/
You guys have a GREAT forum here and I can't wait to hang out more and learn and grow as a hobbyist.

Hello and welcome. I was reading through and saw that you cycled with a green chromis under " DAY 14". That is not the best way to cycle as the fish can suffer with the ammonia. Most people ghost feed or just use a piece of shrimp.. Definitely add a CUC if you have enough algae for them to eat... Flame angles are not easy to keep. And usually would do better in a established tank. I believe your tank is too new... Are you quarantining the fish before you add into your main tank??? Keep us posted..

Welcome to the boards. I hope you enjoy your stay.
If you would, start a thread on your tank here on this forum! It's a lot easier for people to keep up with you that way.
Also, if you want additional information on saltwater setups, please visit my thread, "Snake's Methods" for information anywhere from water changes to water chemistry to algae scrubbers.
Have fun with this expensive and enjoyable hobby.

For the Chromis, it was day 14 of my tank being set up, but I had my live rock curing for two weeks prior to that in a separate tank. By day 14 when I got the Chromis the tank had been coming down quick from ammonia. I did the ghost feed the time prior to that. Not the best decisions, I know. Don't plan on doing it again.
I did just get a clean up crew. Just a small one the 12 hermits, 12 snails, and a crab. I will add more later, as needed. Didn't' want to over do it off the rip.
For the flame angel, that is just a series on the blog I'm going to do of fish that catch my interest walking around the fish store. Don't plan on having one for a long time.
I didn't quarantine the clowns I just got, but I plan on it in the future.

Thanks! I read a lot of your methods, even bookmarked the list. Great information, thank you very much for providing information that great for free when you could easily write a book and sell it.
I'm already having more fun with saltwater than fresh. My wallet, not so much. Totally worth it.

Hah, that makes me feel like my efforts weren't in vain. Thank you for that.
I am actually writing a saltwater book. My online articles are just a prelude to the real thing. Hopefully, they gain interest and I gain enough of a reputation to sell my book online when I finish it.

Pretty sure you already have an entire forum willing to purchase.

Lol, wishful thinking!
So, what made you come to these forums in particular?
When searching for saltwater information, I came across a different forum and was checking it out for a while. I started noticing that it was more focused on soley reefs. I plan on having coral in the future, but for now, I'm fish only, so I went on the hunt. Google search brought me here, and to be honest, I dove in further because of the design of the site / forum ( I am a web designer, so that is actually important to me )
Started reading threads, and realized how great this forum and site is. Been reading a lot, a lot of stuff. Learned more here in the last week than I have in the last few months of research on other sites.
Also, the sense of community and caring that the members put in. I see people posting threads of their tank, start to finish, people posting information, tips, etc and others replying with valuable information.
Just gave me a sense of a welcoming community.

Scott, welcome to the site!
Snake, I'll buy your book, but only if The Dude is gracing the back flap over the "about the author" column. I'm sorry, I just don't see you any other way.

(Oh yeah, and ONLY if you say you bought the AFI magazine that had my horse article! Don't worry, I won't check up...I trust ya.)
