WOW! The"R" part in RTN aint no joke.I brought home a Bali Green Slimer on monday and its 99% gone already. It was looking kinda pale and then in a 24 hr period just totaly turned white.
I have learned quite a bit from this experiance however,it was a costly error.I hope i can prevent it from happening next time.First off dont bring coral home from LFS in sub zero weather,2nd light acclimation might be better for the health of coral,3rd i will from now on drip acclimate all my coral to be on the safe side.
If anyone has some other suggestions ,im all ears.

welcome to the world of sps. there are many little things that may cause a sps to rtn some of them you may never be able to identify

thats why aquacultured sps is still the best bet. they r hardier then wild caught ones. i wouldnt put sps in a tank until a tank has been up for at least 6 months. i hv never drip acclimated any of my sps. if the temp difference is less 5 degrees, i just take it out and expose to air for 20 sec, and put directly into tank. but then again, all of mine sps r aquacultured except a few.

My tank is ready ,its been up for over a 1 1/2 years water params are good.I think it was error on my part (ignorance) that caused the death of my new addition.
:sad
Can you explain the 20 sec air exposer?
Oh yeah and all the sps from this LFS is maricultured.

How much flow was it getting? No need to drip acclaimate corals. Maybe lack of enough flow was the culprit, they like ALOT of indirect flow.

i take my corals out of the bag, let it exposed to air for 20 secs. then i put it into the displayed tank. if the temps r more than 5 degree difference, then i would drip acclimate it 1st then do the above.

I have a 30x turnover rate ,and nothing is blowing directly on any of my coral. Most of it gets deflected off glass ,some flow low some high. I dont have any dead spots.

I am thinking it was a lighting issue.I gave it to much to fast. The LFS that i bought the piece at has 3 250w 14k MH lights above there SPS tank about 3-4 feet above. I put piece in the top 3rd of my tank, about 20" below lights. Also all there sps and lps coral are maricultured .I dont know if it make a difference ,but that is what it is.

maricultured is still basically wild. they are fragged from natural collonies then placed back in the ocean to grow and set up on the rock they were put on. they basically environmently friendly but still never in a home style aquarium for a generation or so like a aquacultered piece. my 1st maricultured piece rtn on me but i fragged it and saved 5 frags my couple maricultered since since have been pretty good.

I also ahve never drip acclimated a coral and never had a loss from it. The bali could have been damaged to start.

Its possible Flricodia,it looked fine when i placed it in my DT.I think i really was a case of non light acclimation.Im shooting over to LFS today, ill speak with them and see what they have to say.
