First SW 29 gal

Well, finally got my LS and LR in and organized. I'm going to try to have it cycle with the LR. I saw lots of dead critters while unpacking it from my SWF order. Hopefully I'll get the sump up and running this week.

Nice job on the aquascaping.
I had a 29 a few years ago, and that was the hardest tank I've owned to aquascape.

Thanks for the feedback! :D
RobChuck... I understand what you mean about it being hard to acquascape. I got some nice pieces of LR from SWF and they fell into place nicely. Only had to rearrange things a couple times.
Magic_Carp... I got a couple books on keeping reef tanks, but most of what I've learned so far has been from everyone here on the message boards. Now I just have to wait for it to cycle. Its funny how much time I spend just staring at the rocks! :joy: :joy:

Did you order LR from SWF? If so, how much?

I ordered 45-50 lbs for SWF. The rock itself is great, but there is a two day shipping period and they don't ship the rock as good as they shipped the sand. My box was actually ripped open and the FedEx guy had to mark it as "damaged goods". However, the rock is great. Just a lot of die-off on it. Which is actually good for me, because I want to cycle my tank with it.
Found a snail.... I think.... last night though. So life did survive. Maybe someone can help me ID it:

Well, just wanted to post an update. After two weeks and even after throwing a raw shrimp in to quicken the cycle, I still haven't had an ammonia spike. So I guess my cycle is complete. I only have 2 snail and 2 red legs in there now, but I'm going to order a clean-up crew on Monday.
I also just hooked up my sump. Its a pretty basic setup, but I got an addiitonal 7 gallons of water out of it. And I was able to get some things out of the display (thermom, skimmer...).

Thanks for the replies! I can't wait to get some corals in there. Hopefully by the end of next month!

I'm going to start out easy with some mushrooms and zoos. I don't have enough lighting for SPS, but might get away with some LPS. I just ordered "Corals: A quick reference Guide" from this site and it should be delivered today or tomorrow. I'll look through there and see what else I can add.
I'm only going to have a couple of percs and maybe a fire goby in there. The rest will be corals. What other types of coral would you recommend?

You could have zoos, shrooms, how about a pagoda cup near the top, green open brain on the sand bed, xenia pom pom, possibly a hammer, some favites would be cool and you could have a sponge of some sort. Basically you can do all softies, and lps but I would put the lps as high as you can get it with the exception of the open brain which should do fine at the sandbed. Also I am sure there is some other lps tha don't require as much light but not real sure which ones.
