ok so i have removed the shrimp and after great care as to not let it explode it exploded all over the tank, i got the body parts out but the clear bubble covering that had engulfed it wont get picked up with either my syphon vacuum or tongs or anything owell i figure that will just continue to help the cycle right.
o and fishmamma im looking now thing that was virtual sarcasm that i just didnt pick up on lol oops.

nvm lol no u had just said that i dont have a test kit, but i had given the ammonia test results. O and by the way the ammonia is at about 1 now so hopefully the cycle will start. Any estimates on time with a 30 gallon tank?

well, if you have ammonia, that is the start of your cycle. Most cycles take about 4 weeks, but if you do water changes to keep your ammonia at or below 1, it may be faster. I've heard of 2 week cycles. good luck!!!

My bad, I must have missed your reading. I never used the shrimp method so not too sure reguarding that method, but using live rock and fish food my tanks cycled in 2-3 weeks. I apologize if you already stated this- but how much live rock if any do you have? This may effect the length of your cycle.

yah im really broke currently and now saving up for fish so i have like 2 pieces of live rock say 6 pounds and then 3 huge pieces of "DEaD" rock that i hope will be taken over with the mushrooms and feather dusters. Ok Next ? is puprle up meant to start the dead rock, or what?
thank you guys for being so helpful.

purple up just adds nutrients to the water so that coraline algae will grow faster... i personally have never added it to my tank, and i never will... there's no need for that kind of stuff. If you want coraline to grow on your "dead" rock, take a toothbrush, and brush some of the coraline in your tank. This will cause it to release spores, and it will begin growing everywhere.

Coralline does not come off with a toothbrush.
More like a razor blade-if your lucky...
