My tank is cycling and I would really like to top off. Do I have to add salt to RO top off water. Or I guess the real question is does salt evaporate?

like getfooled said. just use water for top offs...ro/di is the best. no need to add salt for top offs

Btw when ever your doing a water change. You should always premix in a bucket. I'm sure you already know that, but from your question that you posted remember salt to water not water to salt. =D

How much are you topping off at a time? If it's a considerable amount compared to the total system volume, (like 1 gal in a 10g tank) the temp should be roughly matched. In a smaller ratio, it doesn't hurt. (If you are having to top off large amounts compared to total volume, you are probably swinging your specific gravity beyond normal parameters)
For example, I top off 1g per day, in a system with roughly 70g total water volume. A week ago, I forgot my store bought RO/DI water in the back of the truck. When time to top off, I remembered where I had left it, out in the cold. I topped off with the water that couldn't have been much over freezing, with no temp variation. Also, I drip my top off water into the sump using an air control valve, and some airline tubing. Takes about 30 minutes for the gallon
I use a gallon jug lid that I've drilled two holes in, one for the airline tubing, one for a vent. When time to top off, I replace new water jug lid with my modded lid, put finger over vent, squeeze jug 'til water starts draining, lift finger off vent, let go of jug, and walk away. It's the simplest thing I could come up with until I get a RO and auto top off.
