Need some ideas on my next fish. I have a 90gal w/55gal sump/fuge, euro-reef protein skimmer, and ozone injection that I am still working on.
It has been setup since January and I have 2 perc clownfish, sixline wrasse, midas blenny, and a cleaner shrimp. Also have pretty big cleaning crew consisting of hermits, snails, emerald crabs, and pepperment shrimp.
Some ideas on a some fish to research would be great. I am not going to have any corals but which ever fish I choose can't eat my shrimp he keeps my hand clean.

Here are some fish:
A yellow tang
a school of 3 chromises
a school of cardinals
a puffer
a small angel like a lemon peel
I don't know but there are some options.

Will a puffer be safe with my clean up crew?
I love the yellow tang but have read it is borderline in a 90gal tank due to its swimming and size. Anybody else want to chime in on that one?
I really like cardinals. Will they be safe with shrimp?
Thanks for the ideas I am printing them out. Any other fish to add?

they are cool, typicaly they will stay in a particular spot, and hover around. they will wait untill they see something tasty, and jump for it, then go back and hover. its not typical fish behavior, but it is typical goby behavior!
imo its a different and cool fish

Okay tell me if my thinking is right on this. I really love the foxface and the yellow tang but if I get one of these fish it will take up a lot of my bio load. Where as if I stick to smaller fish I could have more diversity, more different types of fish. Also with a tank my size at 90gals I would think a 3" gobie or 2" cardinal would have a better quality of life then say a 7" tang. Making them more entertaining.
Hopefully I will have a 6' tank some day. Anyother small fish? Leaning towards the yellow gobie w/ pistol shrimp.

Will three green chromises school together? I thought you needed five.

I think a Yellow Tang would be ok in a 90.
Puffers (and you should get one of the smaller ones for your tank, like a Valentini) might eat your clean-up crew. Mine ate all my snails. But they are the most personable fish I've ever had.
My Yellow Watchman Goby was never seen. In fact, I didn't see him for about 6 months and assumed he was dead. Imagine my surprise when I was breaking down my tank last month, moved a rock, and he came flying out!
I don't know what he was eating in there.
Chromises will school in 3s, but aren't much fun in such a small group, in my opinion. I think the bigger the school the more interesting it will be.
Also consider a dwarf angel, like a Coral Beauty or a Flameback, etc. Although they can nip at corals, so beware.

You are right, if you pick smaller fish you can add a ton of fish and they will be happier, keep an eye on your sixline with new additions, they can be aggressive. I would get a bottom dwelling goby, royal gramma, dwarf angelfish, maybe a firefish if your tank is covered. A school of cardinals would be nice if you could find those orange lined ones.
