Fish losing color?

I've noticed that some of my fish lose a lot of their color when my lights are off for an extended period. I notice it the most in my hawk fish and hippo tang. Is this normal?

when its at night and fish lose color its a defense mechinizm. the do it the become camoflagued(sp) with other thigns in the tank

Yeah my Black Blenny develops zebra stripes during lights out. It was disturbing at first ebcause I thought I could see his bones.
