Fish mixing together.....

I had a 20gal that someone didn t want, and I fixed it up and just used the stuff that it came with. Not knowing it was a freshwater hook up.I put fish and live rock in it.The fish just keep dying. So now I know the right stuff to put in it .I want a 60 gal or around that tank.I always wanted a Blowfish and was gonna get one with this tank.I also want a Lionfish as my #1 choice. Will these fish go good together?I would like to use the live rock I have and put some anenomes on it.Not a big reef tank just covering the bottom. The man at the fish store said if my fish get sick it would be hard to treat them with anenomes in the tank. What type of hook up should I have for filtration?I am thinking a Berlin Protein skimmer ,powerhead, and two flourescnt lights for the rocks.Would that be enough lighting?I am wondering if you need another type of filter with that. Can someone give me a listing of everything you must need. Please respond.

Are you sure that tank didnt have some kind of chemical that leached out? I have a 10 and a 55, and there both freshwater setup
fish tanks that I bought from wal-mart. I just added a skimmer to it.

Can a Lionfish and a Blowfish get along without fighting or fin nipping????I mostly had damsels in my tank and had 1 baby Niger Trigger in my tank.I would like to go F/O but I dont like that white coral too much.

A Blowfish AKA a Puffer, should get alonge with a Lion, but you would without a dout need that 60G. That filtration looks sufficant, and later you could add on a Wet/Dry. What Puffer are you looking at? and what Lion?

I am looking at a Porcupine Puffer and a Dwarf Lionfish. So I will need a Protien Skimmer, power head and a wet/dry filter? How do you yo hook up a protien skimmer, like does it need a power head?

Do not mix a Pork with a Lion in a small tank unless you want a dead Pork. There have been at least 2 former posts on this board where Lions stung the Porks at dinner time and the Porks died From what I am reading you are taliking about putting them in a 20 gallon to start together! As suggested above ask a lot more questions or get a good Marine book before you go further with your tank.

Its one of those things that can and does happen due to the way a Puffer will bull over other fish for the food. I realize all books say they can go together and they can in a big enough tank, but anything less then a 90 to me is too small. In answer to your question a Lion can sting anything it wants including us the fishkeepers (I know a few people who have had that fun experience- It is very painful but not fatal to us normally.)

I am looking at a 75 gal.The 20 gal didnt work out.I want to put a Porc with a Lion in a 75 gal.I read the post were those Porcs died.I think I could reduce the chances. Here are 3 ways I think:
1.A big tank that is long and wide.(NO DAAAAHHHH)
2.When feeding them spread the food out and not to put it all in one spot.
3.Make a stucture for them. The Lion likes to sit between rocks.
BTW I read 2 books already and I am asking ques. based on experience from yall.I didnt understand how the hook up went, now I do.

I cannot say it will not work in a 75 but I wanted you aware it may not. I do think in a 75 those 2 fish will be all it can handle as that Pork in time will get to 6 to 12 inches and the Lion well that depends on what you end up getting. They will need the space to keep out of each others way hopefully.

So you are saying in a 75 gal. fish only .I can only have a Lion and a Porc? That would be a waste .

2 fish may seem like a waste when they are 2inches long but my violitans lion and porc grew atleast 4 inches a year. After 5 odd years you can see the problem. I also had my porc stung by the lion, fungus grew from the wound, but it was treated and all was well. After a year they will fill the tank nicely, but I got rid of mine after they outgrew my tank.

The only fish I would want is a Dwarf Lionfish,Porc Puffer(those are my favorite,Imean the ones I must have),Snowflake eel,and a Tang or another fish with color.
Why do yall say"Ifs" for the fish people? They told me a 75gal.will hold 6 good size fish in a F/O.

jwt; I love your analogy of the Lion-Eel in a tank. I love my aggressive tanks but as you say it is a dinnertime action thing more then a sit and relax watching them thing.

That would be too many fish in a 30G. Also, if you have been reading posts above, as pufferlover said, it wouldn't work, cause those lions have poision spikes and the puffer really loves that food. Drop a cube oh somethin in, the lion is up there munchin, the puffer notices there is food *BOLT* ther puffer shots for the food, the lion is sitting right next to the food, *POP* there goes the puffer into one of the lions spikes.....the puffer munches some more.....1 hour later.. the puffer is sitting on the bottom with a swollen wound, and cannot swin to get food. Reacion, puffer is dead... :( not a very happy story, but thats whats goin to happen one of those days, if you have a lion and a puff together. Also that aquarium could olny hold about 4-8 inches of fish. Those fish will outgrow that tank in a year or so, and get stressed, and possibly die. The reason is, imagine bein taken from the ocean, an infanant amount of water to swim and play in. Your all of a sudden in a tank...? ? its olny 1/3,000,000,000 of the size of the ocean you used to have to play in....I would be sad, and want alot of room to run around, and not be cramped with other fish bugging me all the time, so has my point been made? I hope so..........
