Fish or Corals

Do fish tickle your pickle, or is it the corals that turn you on?
I have actually found myself more turned on to this hobby due to the Corals and various inverts. I really honestly don't look at fish as all that interesting. I will be just fine with a beautiful coral reef tank without any fish. Wierd or what?

Damm, That was the hardest poll yet. I flip flop back and forth all the time. I guess I enjoy it all equal. LOL:D

Well, at least fish have half a brain and see you walk up to the tank and know you are the being that feed them and they come swimming. Corals are more like pretty plants with reflexes. Corals alone would not be nearly as interesting to me. We forgot all about those little inverts that are as fun to watch as any fish! If I could only have one choice it would be the creatures that crawl and swim.....a lot more interesting over all to me as the corals just kind of sit there and look pretty. But to each his own tank, his own way that makes them happy. No one is right or wrong, we just appreciate different things. Lesley

Yea, yea...I see coral is winning so far. To be fair survey this needs to be placed on the fish only section too. After all this is the reef section!!!!! Kind of biased group here????

Corals for me. Whenever you walk in the room, the fish runs for it's life. You always have to look for the fish. The fish gets nervous and hides. The fish likes to go surfing. Grr! :D

Corals... although I originally got into the hobby because of the fish. My wife and kids (and myself) liked the pretty fish.
My wife asked me to set us up a SW fish tank and ...... well let's just say she didn't know what she was asking:D .
I often get grief (more like "time to sleep on the couch") from them because they will see a fish they want and I have to say NO because it is not reef compatible.

Even though it was a tough choice I had to vote corals...The diversity is simply out of this world. I keep bout 50 different corals in my reef and each has its own needs. They change from day to day and are never the same. But I must confess to having almost the same or equal dedication to my selection of fish. Not only the coral & fish...but every thing about the diversity of a well established/maintained reef system is beyond words. In all honesty you should have another choice....not corals only...not fish only...my choice would be the total diversity(everything from fish to corals to shrimp to crabs to snails to algaes to copepods to worms to phyto plankton...the whole package is what keeps me interested in the hobby! Each plays off the other and together provide a self contained eco-system that is my personal slice of a simulated marine environment!!

That was a really hard choice to make because I love them both... but in the end I picked fish because they have more personality :)

when i first started with sw i got a 72bofront and like 6 months later i got a 150 (still not setup) and was going to do a fish only tank in the 150. well after i started to add coral to me 72 bofront i was hooked that is why the 150 is still a not setup have had to take time to get all the stuff for a reeftank and i am just about there.

I don't prefer either, I like the natural balance of both and all the critters associated with them.

I've gotta vote for corals, BUT, (that's a big but:D ) adding a few fish to a reef tank really seals the deal for me. I tend to pay more attention to the corals - fish just really seem to balance it all out.
