Lets see what gadgets you are using and what for.
 
 
 
Eye droppers for filling test tubes on water tests, always right on the line I need

 
 
Syringes from Joes juice and Aiptasia X, I used them for dosing vodka too

 
 
 
 
I got this specimen cup from the hospital, I asked the nurse for it, I collect my saltwater for water tests in it. So I can have all the water I need for my tests right at the table as I work.

 
 
The Fish Only Turkey baster: 101 uses I think..blasting junk off rock #1

 
 
***** Grabbers, also has a clipper attachment great for working on my coral

 
Scissor Grabbers: Not for heavy lifting but real handy for small stuff

 
 
a wand from some old blinds: great for turning over rocks and fallen corals, stirring sand

 
The Sea Squirt: Spot feeding. I use this even for Joes juice for those hard to reach places

Come on no pictures of mag floats, methods of drip acclimating..nothing? You would be surprised how many new folks have no idea the cool things that will help them keep their tanks in good shape..
 
Even if you don't have a picture a good explanation will do.

I have eye droppers, the grabbers, sea squirt, mag float, several different kent algae scrapers, pvc pipe w/ attacked milk jug for adding sand, a 5 drawer plastic cabinet for all my stuff, a folding bench I use when cleaning, refractometer, .... that's all I can think of right now.

Oh yeah, I have a ton of various brushes for cleaning certain things. I got most of them from the kitchen wares at wally world.

For attaching corals to rock..make sure it's GEL, regular is too thin

 
 
 
Clear fish line: Great for attaching to a food clip for easy retrieval and for sewing mesh around a power head to keep anemones safe.

 
 
Let's not forget this very important gadget

 
 
 
The FISH ONLY baby bottle brush...nothing cleans a protein skimmer collection cup better

 
 
For fragging zoa and lots of other needs..POWDER FREE

 
 
 
For keeping track of time sensitive water tests, like ammonia and nitrates on the API tests

I use a slap chop to slice my homemade frozen food chunks up into smaller bits so my fish can eat it easier.
Mr's wages pickling lime for aiptasia
 
one of my LFS has rubbermaid tubs for his three part sump.
 
I use egg crate for the bottom of my tank and to add my homemade food to so they come out in even pieces after freezing.

Very inventive for fsh food, why the egg crate on the bottom of the tank? Under the sand, no sand...explain please.

goes in first witht eh rocks on top it to evenly distribute the weight of the rocks without causing pressure points, also helps to give them something to lock them into place instead of a smooth glass bottom. Then I fill the sand in around the rocks and over the top of the egg crate so if i decide to have an engineer goby or an eel or something down the road even if they burrow they will not be able to topple my rockwork.

It sounds like a good idea, but I have used egg crate and it is very brittle, wouldn't the rock crush it anyway? Wait, once again I assume everyone has a bigger tank, I don't THINK egg crate could hold the 75 pounds of rock that my tank has in it.. what size is your tank.

i have egg crate in the bottom of my 125 and i have about 150 lbs of LR and mine isnt crushed been that way for years and i just moved the tank a while back and it was all still intact i works very well

Agree my favorite is the food chopper....bought it for my wife for Christmas a couple years back, but somehow it made it's way to my fishroom and has never gone back!!!!!

Two things, first, buoyancy. Objects in water, tend to be lighter then out of water. That 75lbs of live rock, is no where near close to that amount submerged in water, and esp. salt water.
 
Second, the sand in and around the egg crate helps to distribute the load. If the rock is sitting on one or two spots of egg crate, the sand helps to spread the load to the next section, which spreads to the next section etc.

Wow, I never considered that..if I ever, LOL... and I hope never have to break my tank down for a redo, I am going to put the egg crate down first. Thanks for the tip, I'm sure you helped allot of new folks that are just setting up their tank.
