Fish Trade in Value

Just curious as to how much you can expect to get back for a fish when you sell it back to your LFS. I know a ton of factors are involved most importantly health. Lets say if i ever watned to trade my 2 inch Sebae Clown who is in mint condition what can i expect for store credit? (Sounds like i am trading in baseball cards) like 25% of what i paid for it?? maybe i am too optimistic.

well it depends how long you have had the fish....
i brought a lemon peel angel a week ago and i took it back yesterday because it attacked my other fish and they gave me what i paid for on the lemon peel!.

One of the LFS here that I trust and deal with often, has a standard return policy.
He takes 20% off of the normal list price that he would sell the fish for - cause he doesn't know if you bought it from him or got the fish on sale.
Then he gives 50% of that value as a store credit.
So for a $50.00 fish - you'd get back $20 bucks.
I had to return a beautiful Flame Angel & Rusty Dwarf Angel few weeks ago. I hated to do so - but after 14 months in my tank - they began nipping at corals.

One of my LFSs won't take a fish back, and the other will take a fish, but not for any credit, although they'll give you a break if you buy something then and there.

WHEN YOU TAKE A FISH BACK TO THE LFS ITS LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE "GETTIN BOARD WITH THE FISH SO THE LFS ARE THINKIN WHY SHOULD I TAKE IT BACK WHEN THEY COULD BE MAKING UP AN EXCUSE TO GET THE FISH OUT OF THERE TANK AND BACK INTO OUR STORE JUST BECAUSE THERE BOARD"
ITS JUST LIKE RENTING FISHES OUT THE FISH STORE DONT MAKE MONEY IF THEY SELL YOU ONE FISH BUT THEN 3 DAYS LATER YOU BRING IT BACK AND EXCHANGE IT FOR ANOTHER ONE!
ITS LIKE 2 FISH FOR THE PRICE OF ONE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
I HOPE YOU DONT TAKE THIS OFFENSIVELY!!!

No i dont, just curious as to what you could get for something if you have babies, have to move and cant bring your fish, incompatibility problems, etc. I dont want to get rid of anything but my damsels, they wont get me anything so there's no point in taking them back. My LFS is very helpful and I am sure would be willing to make a deal if I asked.

The owner of the store i go to know me by name now cause of how much i've spent at his place the past two months. I think his kids had a good x-mas cause of me. He knows I wouldnt return something out of boredom, even if i did he would gladly take it back to make more money off someone like me. I know certain places have different policies on returns/store credit. I just wanted to see if I ever have to do the same if i am getting a good deal or not.
