Fish Wish List

Hi all,
My tank is 5 weeks old and has cycled. PH is 8.2, ammonia is zero, nitrites are zero and nitrates are 20. My current setup is:
55 Gal
70# live rock
60# live sand
Coralife Pro 48" light w/ 2 150W MH, 2 96W actinic. 3 moon
Coralife SuperSkimmer -- Hang-on usage, not sump
3 powerheads (2 for flow and one small one agitating the surface)
I realize that I need to add fish slowly, but my end tank setup wish list is:
2 False Perks
Flame Angel
Royal Gramma
Naso Tang
1 skunk shrimp
1 fire shrimp
3 peppermint shrimp
some snails and hermits
perhaps a goby
After the tank has established for a while, I'd like to add an anemone for the clowns and some corals. Does this sound okay, or too much livestock for my setup? I'm looking to have a peaceful and reef safe setup.

Naso tangs get huge{upwards of 16" }and even when small, need more swimming room than your tank will afford. The flame may be a risk with corals.
Have you planned on proper lighting for the corals and anemone ?
Let your nitrates come down to 0 before you add any livestock. What are all your other water parameters ?

Naso Tang scratched right off the wish list! Thanks.
I think I'm pretty much set on the lights for the anemone and corals, 2 150W HQI metal halide and 2 96W actinic. Would a Coral Beauty angel be a better choice for a reef safe dwarf angel then the flame? The only other water reading I have is the specific gravity which is 1.023. I don't currently have tests for calcium, etc. Thanks for your advice!

There is no such thing as a 100% reef safe angel.
The ones that are least likely to do coral damage are Watanabei,Lamarck's,Bellus, and Swallowtail. For a coral reef, slowly bring your SG. up to 1.025-1.026.

I have a 55 reef set up and your list is much like mine. My tank is only a couple months old and in it now all i have are 2 chromises (good starter fish, cheap and hardy). our lists are alot alike (beside the naso). im lookin for 2 false percs, royal gamma, maybe a dwarf angel if i build up enough courage, and a purple firefish (very neat looking IMO). as for the inverts, i have 2 skunk shrimp and i love them. every once in a while I catch them cleaning inside the chromises mouth!!! thats my 2 cents i hope it helped but your fish lineup sounds good as long as the naso is scratched out.

good luck with that, under 20 is fine.
For a coral reef, slowly bring your SG. up to 1.025-1.026.
Since you don't have any fish/inverts/corals yet, you don't have to do it slowly, when you do a water change to bring now your nitrates, mix the water at a higher sg than your tank currently is.
have the lfs test for ph, alk, ca.
Make sure those shrimp will get along with each other, some shrimp like to eat other shrimp.

I run three tanks, and take care of over 1,000 gal. at work...and all of them have 0 nitrates.
I disagree with relying on an LFS to test your water.Wherein it may be ok in the beginning..I think people should get a handle on this themselves, buy quality test kits..and learn how to care for your own tank.I do this service free for people, but in some cases I feel it is just their way around buying test kits. What if there is a problem, and the store is closed...what then?
What if the person doing the testing is doing it wrong?

There's less than 0% chance your nitrates are zero. They're just so low your test kit isn't reading them.
Zero nitrates would mean either you have no ammonia producing organic life in your tank or that you had no nitrifying bacteria.

I didn't mean for the lfs to test forever, just right now, till rif got those test kits. And now I have no idea why I said that in the first place, maybe since rif didn't post those results.
