Yeah, they're mostly interested in what is available to eat within your sand.. so feeding other stuff probably won't work.
How big is your tank?

Your doing about the best you can. Use a syringe to get the food down in the sand in front of it. I fed mine frozen mysis and brine, but it died after a few months. Their sand sifters. Mine would spit out most of what he tried to eat. They shouldn't be in the hobby in my opinion.

Good reply, IMO.
These fish grab mouthfuls of sand and filter out the edible stuff. I'd strongly suggest getting a good fish reference book (like Scott Michaels "Marine Fishes") and researching before you buy. Do not rely on the info from the LFS. This book will tell you that most of these cute little gobies starve in captivity and do much better in pairs. There are, unfortunately, many fish on the market that are not suitable for most hobbiests.

Cute fish, die quickly. Stores that sell them are ruthless. They should not be in a hobby. I had limited success with Rods food, but its a pain to feed them, and they are very, or at least my were, shy, so they moved away from food. Take them back, and punch the owner of the LFS in the face for selling them. Ok, don't do that, but perhaps look for a different store. If he sell them, odds are, he will sell some other beautiful things that will die soon after.
