So here are some fish that I wish were more common.
"Koi" Yellow Tang:

Australian Stripey:

Mulleri Butterflyfish:

Lightning maroon clownfish:

Last but not least (drum roll)...
Pepermint Angelfish:

This fish is so rare to us that it goes for $30,000 at least!

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder....but LOL...sorry Mr. Limpid...but that is the ugliest angelfish I ever saw. If I wanted a pukey grey fish with just the smallest hint of any color, I would have stayed with the freshwater fish...that description includes the kole "yellow" tang. pictured in #1...now that beautiful peppermint angelfish...that's more like a saltwater beauty I could love. Until I see a $30.000.00 price tag.

The way I do things.... I research a fish I have found in a book, or someone has mentioned, if I like it and want it... then google the fish to see where I can order it from. I like ordering on-line because of the 14 day guarantee most on-line stores offer. Also it eliminates the middle man...why stress a fish to have it sent to a LFS, then they bag it back up to sell to you. I would rather they just bag the critter up and send it to me directly.
Now...what I wish for is that my LFS would carry good brands of equipment like the Octopus sss1000 skimmer...if it were not for this site telling me what to look for at an on-line store, I wouldn't even know anything but the cyclone protein skimmer existed. Of all 5 fish stores in my area, that is the only skimmer any of them offer. There are no phosphate reactors, Metal Halide or LED light fixtures, or any of the fancy good power heads. They never heard of a refractometer or a duel phosphate carbon reactor. They don't even really sell live reef sand, their idea of "live" sand is bacteria filled junk.
P.S.
That lightening maroon clown...AWESOME!!!

See, lately my local fish stores have been running mere bread-and-butter fishes, with barely a handful of really nice fish in the mix. I wish they'd carry more than the standard selection of clowns, damsels, firefish, yellow tangs, and flame angels. These are all beautiful fish, yes....but when you're in the process of stocking a tank with slightly more diversified life, it can be frustrating.
FYI, for any local members near me, there IS a female McCosker's at my local shop. Very small though...and I already have an animal in QT....so it's not the fish for me. Would be great to have a male and female McCosker's, though.

Hi,
I watched the video of that peppermint angelfish...that fish does not look healthy to me...the back fin is all chewed up and you can see the lateral line. I mean for $30.000.00 it should be a perfect specimen. Anyway the fellow in the video said he was offered that much but he thought it was ridiculous.

Scorpaeniformes...however, in a way, that would make it less exciting when you happen to find a fish you've been searching for, esp. when it has been a few years. If these species were too readily available, I'm afraid they'd end up in too many of the "wrong" tanks.
OTOH, if these species were common, one assumes that there would be a lot more reliable info out there on them.
