Fishermon's 29 Biocube Diary

I'm getting my Biocube this week. I plan on 20lbs LS, around 25-30lbs LR.
I plan on using water from my well established 90g reef for the water in the cube (probably 20g I think the entire amount would be too much wc for my 90g).
My LFS has some very nice LR covered w/coraline. They also have many polyps & shrooms on these rocks. They have 3 of these rocks, all with coral growth. I estimate all 3 weigh 20lbs.
Will these rocks be OK to add at the beginning?
I'm hoping using water from my 90g will speed up the cycle.
I'm not trying to rush it, but I really want these 3 rocks they are very nice & will be the center of my aquascape.
Should I go ahead & buy them & put them in the tank now,or leave them at LFS, and put them in later? Basically I just want to know if the new tank will hurt the polyps & shrooms.
Also,should I use 20lbs or 30lbs LS?
Opinions?

Well considering that you are putting in sw from your larger tank, you really shouldn't have that much of a cycle. If it were me, I would just wait on putting any corals in for awhile. Like you said either put them in your big tank, or maybe your LFS will reserve them for you. Keep the pics a comin

Hi there!~

Can't wait until you get this set up!~
I would definately buy the LR that you're talking about that has the nice coraline! It's so hard to find LR around here that's like that, so I would grab it up!~

Zoas and shrooms are fine with the stock lighting. Ricordeas are also fine and very nice with the lighting.
I would wait to add the LR with the zoas and shrooms until after your tank cycles though because you wouldn't want to risk losing them through the spikes.
Keep us updated, though~

Thanks I'm off work tomorrow & I'll go ahead & get the rocks. I think I'll put them in my 90g until my cube is ready (I don't want them fraggin on them!).
They are awesome! Totally purple & have some nice zoos & red shrooms! I don't want them to get away from me. I think they'll be a perfect start for my aquascape. I'll take some pics of the 3 rocks tomorrow.
When I do set-up the tank will about 20 gallons of water from my 90g speed up the cycle? Should I add a raw shrimp? I've read alot of people do this.
I do plan on taking pics from the start.
I enjoy watching everyone's tank progression threads.
Also do you guys recommend 20 or 30lbs of LS?

I went to two lfs today. I only bought one of the rocks I mentioned in the 1st post. I ran across some corals I couldn't resist.
I got a mixed rock with 3 different kinds of zoos, some xenia, and a few cloves.
Aslo got a red shroom rock with about a dozen large shrooms.
Next was a HUGE mother colony of pink zoos.
Another mixed rock with 2 different zoos.
A fairly large rock with green eye zoos.
I got one big rock all purple with about 10 yellow polyps. It's around 12" long.
They will all have a temporary home in my 90g until I get my cube going (hopefully around 2 weeks). All these pieces look so good it's going to be hard to remove them from my 90. I can always frag some stuff I guess.
The lfs said my cube will be in Thursday for sure (I hope!).
Here are some pics when I got home.
I'll post pics again after all are acclimated & in the tank.

Wow! Looks like you got a lot of nice stuff!
Your LFS must have a great selection or must have just gotten a new shipment in and you walked out with it!
You must have spent a small fortune in there!
The red mushrooms look gorgeous already and they're not even in the tank yet!~
Post some pics when you get them settled!

They did get a new shipment today & I cherry picked it!
I'll get some pics when they are all in my tank.
Unless my wife gets home first & kills me.

I knew it! Must be nice to be the first to go over the new arrivals!~

Put them all in the tank and tell your wife that they all hitchhiked on something.

Not sure how many lbs of LS to add... I don't even know how much is in mine.
I just know that I moved some sand over from my 14 gal Biocube and added maybe 20 more?

I thought I'd share the corals acclimated to my 90.
Pic1 The pink zoos. They didn't open Yesterday so I moved them higher in the tank & they're opening now.
Pic2 Combo rock. I'm usually not a big combo rock fan (I've always thought they look so "man made"), but I got a great price on it. I also thought over time it would spread & add diversity to the new cube.
Pic3 The red shrooms. I LOVE these guys! I promise they look better in person than in the pics. They are even bigger now than they were at LFS. Maybe I have better water than they do.

Pic 4 Orange & green zoos. I love the combination. There is also I believe an oyster or clam or something on it. It has a shell & opens up.
Pic 5 Large green zoo rock with one of those big, fluffy, gigantic, meaty, titanic, red shrooms. Did I mention they are fairly large?
1 more to come.

This is my coraline covered "shelf" rock. I can't wait to get in in there & build around it.
My cube is supposed (BETTER) to be here this afternoon!

I'm getting anxious!

Got my cube after work today.

Took some pics of it's new home. It's 10ft from my 90g. My ultimate goal is to have a SW tank in every room of the house. Wishful thinking! I'm lucky my wife allows me to have what I do now. It's not that she doesn't like my tanks, but she's not an addict like all of us!
I can't wait until it's ready. I can relax after a long day at work on my recliner & chill. No, come to think of it I'll have work to do on the tanks & I have a 2 yr old. So I'll never chill, but it will still be nice.
The left fan ( I think the intake fan ) is not working.
Should I just call the 800# on my book?
I've seen posts that gave a name for a guy who handles warranty claims for Oceanic. Anyone have his name & #?
Also my cords are covered with a white residue shown in the final pic. It rubs off. Kind of like salt creep. Not Already

Anyone's cube come the same way?
