My sump/fuge tank seemed to have a leak so when I was adding the baffle walls to it with aquarium silicone so I used a ton on all the seals (inside and out) as well. I didn't cut out anything. It has been a little less than a year, but it seems to be fine. Nothing seems to be seperating.
Of course this wasn't for a display tank and it didn't have to look pretty, but you can't really tell that I added a ton of silicone unless you know what you are looking at.

My 55 fresh had a leak from day one. We didnt see it when we bought it and the tank was on sale. GEE I WONDER WHY.
So we couldnt take it back. We got it about 1/2 full when we noticed water shooting out!
All we did was fill the hole with aquarium sealant both inside and out and down the seal about 5" either way.
It has been up and running for 5 years. Knock on wood.
I will try to get a pic of the hole. It was crazy.

yea try to get a pic. this leak is in the bottom. so i thought of just resealing about 5 or so inches each side and just piling the silcone on. no one will be able to see it since it on the bottom and be covered by sand. does the silcone stick to the old good?

I had no problems with it sticking. I also used my finger a bit to make sure it filled every possible spot then put some more on top of that.

My refugium leaked and just like everyone else I just piled on the silicone. If it can't be seen then whats it matter. Works well.
