fixing broken tank

I need to replace the bottom glass on my 225 gallon aquarium. It was ¾ inch thick but I am only able to find glass with a half inch thickness. If I add a piece of plywood that is a half inch thick in between the glass and frame will this help provide extra support to keep the glass from bowing? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Believe it or not, I think that should work I suggest you splurge for marine ply even though in theory the water should never reach it.
