My beautiful Flagfin Angel devleoped a popeye overnight. Has anybody ever experienced this? What can I do about it if anything? I've had him for eight months and he has been extremely healthy

Don't jump to medications right off. Eye problems can be caused by a number of things. It might be bacterial, it may be an abrasion which caused the swelling. IMO, try a large water change first using aged,aerated saltwater, matching temp and pH as close to display levels as possible. Sometimes, this will help with an eye problem. Can you post your water parameters, specifically nitrate and pH. Tank size and mates? Any noted aggression?

i think most people that that care of there fish have good water quailty. seem most everyone has it pretty close . If you smart enough to check your water, you'll problem be smart enoughy to being up the fact you have a problem with nitate and so on. Thats the one thing in this hobby is there is somemany know it alls . Whats a guy going to write back my amn. 8.00 my nitates are 80 . I really wondering about this hobby. 8 out 10 people in this hobby are Nuts. This hobby must being out the nuts. Go to the fish store there all crazy. How much money can i guy make working at one of those store 10 -15 hour.

Even if their water parameters are good, we still need to ask, just to be able to rule out whether it is a problem with the water. There are plenty of smart people who work at local fish stores. I have worked at a few, and always enjoyed my time there. It is a great place to learn new information and help people who may need some advice. Even if it is not always the best pay, it is nice to know that you are able to help so many people with their aquariums.

Steve, my first thought was possibly aggression, since flagfin angels are not usually a very dominant fish.
Like nicetry said though, pH and nitrate can also be issues.

if levels check out, and you must treat, I have also had good luck with melafix, and because it is all natural it is not very stressful to the fish IMO

IME ive treated popeye on my coral beauty with garlic and daily water changes until symptoms went away. Like posted above... so many variables can contribute to the condition but most likely it comes from a crash into the rock that can be aggrivated by less than perfect water parameters.
